Summer School Program - Reach Ahead

The Reach Ahead program is a face to face experience that involves four (4) full weeks of daily on-site instruction for grade 8 students who will be entering grade 9 at one of our BHNCDSB secondary schools in September.

Reach Ahead will run from July 2 - 26, 2019. Attendance is mandatory for all days of the program. Registration opens January 8, 2019 and will close June 16, 2019. ​*Times/Locations Subject to Change

Due to mandatory facility upgrades and construction during July 2019, the Reach Ahead program for Assumption College School (ONLY) will be offered at St. John's College with transportation provided from central locations.

   Dates & Attendance

  • Daily attendance for all four (4) weeks is required in order to earn this Grade 9 credit

  • These are face to face courses and attendance is mandatory in order to earn the credit.

  • Holidays should not be taken during the duration of the course.

  Locations & Hours

  • The Reach Ahead program for Summer 2019 will held at both Holy Trinity Catholic High School (HT) and St. John’s College (SJC) locations from July 2 to 26, 2019.

 PLEASE NOTE: Assumption College (ACS) students will attend classes at the St. John’s College location due to significant construction taking place at Assumption College in July.

  • Bus transportation from limited central locations will be available for students in the Reach Ahead program.  Door to door bus service will not be available.
  • Reach Ahead program hours at Holy Trinity Catholic High School will be from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM week days, July 2 to 26, 2019.

  • Reach Ahead program hours at St. John's College (for both ACS and SJC Students) will be from 8:10 AM to 2:10 PM week days, July 2 to 26, 2019.

  Transportation

 Please Note:  On July 2 the start time for class for ACS/SJC students only will be 10:10 am instead of the usual 8:10 am.  The bus schedule will be delayed in the morning by 2 hours. On July 26 class will be dismissed at 11:50 am instead of the usual 2:10 pm. The bus schedule will be early by 2 hours and 20 minutes. 

   Uniforms / Clothing

  • Students will not be required to wear a school uniform for any of the Reach Ahead courses.

  • For those taking the PAD1O Outdoor Living course personal athletic clothing must be worn each day.

  Refreshments, Snack, Lunch

  • Lunch will not be provided so students must bring their own lunch and refreshments.

  • There will be no access to a cafeteria.

  • Students will have access to a water fountain if they choose to bring their own personal water bottle to fill.

 ​  BHNCDSB Email, Username and Password

  • All email communication will come through students' BHNCDSB e-mail account, NOT personal e-mail accounts.

  • User name and passwords are used for the BHNCDSB online learning platform Desire2Learn (D2L).

  • If the use of D2L is required for the Reach Ahead course that students are enrolled in, the classroom teacher will review the D2L portal and accessing course content there in-class on July 2, 2019.

  • If students do not know their username and password they should speak to their current grade 8 teacher for this information.

  • If the teacher is not able to assist, please contact the Continuing Education Secretary at hbouckhuyt@bhncdsb.ca.

   Desire2 Learn (D2L) Learning Platform

   Information Night at Secondary School

  • There will NOT be be an information night at the secondary schools as previously indicated. Instead, teachers will be emailing students directly.

   Withdrawal from Reach Ahead Courses

  • If circumstances change prior to the start of the Summer School Reach Ahead program and a student is no longer able to/does not wish to participate in the program, please contact the Continuing Education Secretary at hbouckhuyt@bhncdsb.ca prior to July 2, 2019. The student's name will be removed from the registration list without academic penalty.

  • Parental consent is required for removal from a course for all students under the age of 18, so if a student is under the age of 18 a parent must be the one who makes the contact.
